One of the more uncomfortable moments from last night's Video Music Awards telecast took place when Selena Gomez was forced to interview her boyfriend Justin Bieber.Gomez looked absolutely miserable interviewing her younger, bespeckled boyfriend. They had a very weird exchange about the snake Bieber brought down the red carpet (named "Johnson"). (Gomez did not seem to find this riff funny.) And then, just when she thought she was out in the clear, Bieber lunged forward and pecked her on the cheek for an excruciatingly long amount of time.

Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony split over Scientology rift?
Monday, August 15, 2011
Jennifer Lopez wanted to enroll her children in a Scientology school and Anthony was not on board with that.Lopez hasn't said anything about Scientology being a part of their divorce, but she did address the Scientology subject in a 2008 interview with the Daily Beast. She spoke of how her father David has been a Scientologist for over 20 years, though she is not a Scientologist herself. She said "I have no problems with it and it really actually bothers me that people have such a negative feeling towards it."
When asked if she'd enroll her twins Max and Emme in a Scientology school, she said, "Yeah. I wouldn't mind. Not at all. Because I know that the technologies that they have are very helpful... It's all about communication. That's the thing I really don't like about talking about this. I do know so many great people who do do it, who choose it as a lifestyle and really follow it and it is their religion,I just wish that people wouldn't judge it without knowing what it is."

WFP expands relief work in famine-hit Somalia
Sunday, August 14, 2011
The World Food Program said that it is expanding its food distribution efforts in famine-struck Somalia, where the U.N. estimates that only 20 percent of people needing aid are getting it.Some of those from the outlying regions have walked for days to the capital for help, only for it to be too late.Aid agencies urgently need to increase their efforts to reach families beyond the Somali capital, said Valerie Amos, the U.N.'s top humanitarian official. Wastelands in the battle-scarred capital are being transformed into makeshift camps as families move in and set up shelters, hoping for help."We have to start getting aid out to them to avoid a massive influx of people into the city," she said. The U.N. estimates that 2.8 million Somalis need food aid, and 2.2 million of them live outside the capital in areas controlled by Islamist rebels, who have forbidden many aid agencies to work in their territory, including the U.N.'s World Food Program. But WFP is already getting aid to some areas in southern Somalia that had been inaccessible a month ago, said one official."We are expanding our activities in Mogadishu and we are looking to dramatically increase those activities over the coming days and weeks as the security situation in the city permits," said Stanlake Samkange, the WFP regional director in East and Central Africa. More aid was getting to southern Somalia as well, he said.

Tevez may stay at City: Mancini
Saturday, August 13, 2011
Unsettled striker Carlos Tevez could be forced to stay at Manchester City because "there isn't a team that wants to take him."Roberto Mancini admitted Friday.Tevez is back training with City ahead of the new Premier League season after representing Argentina at Copa America. But the striker has made it clear he wants to leave and has been linked with a move away from the club.
However, Mancini said that it appears more and more likely that Tevez could be forced to remain at City as there was no interest in the player."I don't know if he will stay but it is difficult for him to leave," said Mancini at a press conference ahead of City's opening game of the season against Swansea."Carlos is here and there isn't a team that wants to take him. I'm happy if he stays."Mancini has spent around £51 million (58 million euros) in the transfer market this summer for Argentina forward Sergio Aguero, full-back Gael Clichy from Arsenal and centre back Stefan Savic from Partizan Belgrade. But his hopes of securing Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri, a player Mancini has been chasing all summer, before the opening game are up in the air, much to the manager's frustration.Nasri, who is valued at around £22 million, has not been included in Arsenal's squad for Saturday's match against Newcastle."I don't know the situation at the moment," added Mancini when asked about Nasri.

Fidel Castro turns 85
Revolutionary legend Fidel Castro turns 85 today, still an important figure in his communist-ruled Cuba which he ran for 49 years. He gave up his last leadership post this year when he stepped down as head of the ruling Communist Party and has retreated further and further from public view. His gradual slipping away appears to be a product of choice born of necessity, but also of a transition plan to wean Cuba from its once near-total dependence on the charismatic Comandante's leadership.Cuba was to celebrate the birthday with a nationally televised serenade by a lineup of musicians. Organizers said this week they did not know if Fidel Castro would attend personally. He came to power on New Year's Day 1959 when his guerrilla forces swept down from the eastern Sierra Maestra mountains to topple US-backed dictator Fulgencio Batista. As Cuba's president, he outlasted nine US presidents and five decades of US hostility, but in July 2006 he underwent emergency intestinal surgery and suffered complications from which he never fully recovered.

Pippa Middleton's bridesmaid dress at her sister Kate's wedding to Prince William is to go on sale in Britain
A copy of Pippa Middleton's bridesmaid dress at her sister Kate's wedding to Prince William is to go on sale in Britain, at about a 100th of the cost of the original, a store said.Middleton almost stole the show on her elder sister's big day in April, wowing a global television audience of some two billion viewers as she arrived at Westminster Abbey in a figure-hugging white Alexander McQueen dress. Her stunning appearance sparked an Internet frenzy, with the Facebook group "Pippa Middleton Ass Appreciation Society" attracting almost a quarter of a million fans.
The original reportedly cost around £20,000 but the replica will retail for just £170, said Debenhams, which has branches across Britain. The store said it has been inundated with requests for dresses modelled on those at the royal wedding, with demand for Middleton's gown even outstripping interest in the dress worn by her sister, now known as Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge.

Britain burns: Riots spread through UK cities
Violence and looting raged across London and spread to three other major British cities on Tuesday, as authorities struggled to contain the country's most serious unrest since race riots set the capital ablaze in the 1980s.In London, a third straight night of disorder saw buildings, vehicles and garbage dumps set alight, stores looted and police officers pelted with bottles and fireworks, as groups of young people rampaged through neighborhoods. It was an unwelcome reminder of London's volatility for leaders organizing the 2012 Summer Olympics in less than a year.
As authorities struggled to keep pace with unrest unfolding at flashpoints across London, the violence spread to the central city of Birmingham, the western city of Bristol and the northwestern city of Liverpool. Prime Minister David Cameron cut short his summer vacation in Italy and was headed home for a meeting of the national crisis committee on Tuesday morning. The riots appeared to have little unifying cause — though some involved in the violence claimed to be motivated by government cuts to public spending. The government was aiming to toughen its stance against the violence, as some communities complained that stretched police were struggling to contain the unrest with rioters plundering from stores at will, menacing shocked customers at restaurants and attempting to invade homes. Stores shut early across London, fearful of violence and looting.

Honda recalls 2.5 million vehicles
Honda Motor Co Ltd will recall 2.49 million cars, small SUVs and minivans worldwide, including its popular Accord sedan, to repair a software problem that could damage the automatic transmission. The recall includes 1.5 million vehicles in the United States, about 760,000 in China and 135,142 in Canada. This week, Consumer Reports said it was not recommending the 2012 Honda Civic. This led some industry analysts to ask if that was a symptom of larger problems at the automaker. The company has said it disagreed with the influential U.S. consumer advocate's assessment.Chris Martin, Honda spokesman at the company's U.S. headquarters in California, said the recall was not a sign of deeper difficulties, but instead stemmed from "extremely unusual circumstances.""The far majority of our consumers would never really encounter this," he said. "It's software programing. It's not a weakness in the transmission per se."
Through July, Honda auto sales were down 2.6 percent in the U.S. market, in large part because of the supply crisis caused by the March earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Overall, U.S. auto industry sales were up 11 percent for the period. The U.S. market is Honda's most important, accounting for a third of global sales and even more of earnings.Honda was sixth in the U.S. auto market through July, down from fourth for all of 2010.The company reported a profit of 22.58 billion yen ($292.5 million) for the June quarter, but is adding inventory and expecting a sales boost in the second half of 2011, just as the U.S. and global economy faces greater uncertainty.Honda's U.S.-traded shares were up 1 percent at $36.65 in afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange, while the S&P 500 index rose 0.9 percent.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson lights fuse ahead of City showdown today
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson 'lit the fuse' ahead of an explosive Community Shield clash with Manchester City by warning his bitter rivals that even their financial muscle can't guarantee success in the Premier League.Ferguson initially seemed unconcerned when City's Abu Dhabi-based owners started lavishing vast sums on a host of big names three years ago.But his dismissive jibes about dealing with "noisy neighbours" have been replaced by an awareness that Roberto Mancini's expensively assembled team are now a serious threat. Now Ferguson has paid City the ultimate back-handed compliment by starting his mind games before the season has even begun. He chose the eve of this weekend's traditional curtain-raiser to issue a stern reminder that splashing the cash doesn't necessarily mean prizes will follow.Ferguson said, "We get this almost every year when clubs round about us buy, and that's how you view the importance of winning the league these days.Chelsea had this great spell of buying when Jose Mourinho first went there and we accepted that challenge. To win the league in England is very difficult. If you look at the Premier League you are looking at the top six fighting for four places.I think 84 points will win the league next year. We had less last year but you have to consider the increasing competition.Liverpool are expected to be better, the top four we know about and Tottenham as well. You expect it to be a really tough league."

The 21-track freebie features collabs with the likes of Wiz Khalifa, Swizz Beatz and, perhaps most noteworthy, Justin Bieber, who's happily back to rapping on Brown's "Ladies Love Me". Head below to check out the "Next 2 You" buddies teaming up once again.Chris samples his own "Look At Me Now" on his track with the pop star, who coincidentally broke out that song during one of his recent concerts.
